If we compare the PNES and epileptic seizures, it looks like PNES attacks most frequently resemble generalized, tonic-clonic seizures (generalized stiffening followed by shaking) or other events with complex symptoms (staring and non-responsiveness). But there are still plenty of variations.
Because PNES attacks can often resemble different types of epileptic attacks, a diagnosis should never be made without EEG confirmation.
