What if the patient has no typical episodes while having video EEG?

If a seizure or episode is not captured, the outcome of the test may be considered "inconclusive." Sometimes a longer hospital stay will be necessary to either record a seizure or, if a person has more than one type, to capture all of the different episodes/ seizures. Some patients complain that the hospital is so much more peaceful than their usual living conditions (for instance, no work, children, chores) that they actually have fewer seizures/ episodes because of this. Other patients feel stressed about being in a hospital, and this may help bring on the seizure/ episode faster.

Family members might also be asked to look at the episodes on video and confirm that they are "typical" for the patient.
